Asushost Domain Transfer FAQ
Domain Transfer FAQ

Move Your Domain to Asushost

Ready to experience better support, affordable renewals, and easier management? Transferring your domain name to Asushost is a seamless process. We handle everything efficiently so your website and professional emails stay active throughout the switch. Bring your brand home to Kenya's trusted registrar.

Will my website go offline during the transfer?+

No, your website and emails will remain completely active! A domain transfer simply changes the registrar managing your domain billing and ownership settings. As long as your nameservers are not altered during the move, your live services will face absolutely zero downtime.

What is an EPP code or Auth code?+

An EPP code (also called an Authorization Code) acts like a unique security password for your domain name. It proves that you are the rightful owner and prevents unauthorized transfers. You must request this code from your current registrar before starting the transfer with us.

How long does a domain transfer take to complete?+

For local Kenyan domains like .CO.KE, transfers are fast and usually complete within 24 hours once approved. For global domains such as .COM, .NET, or .ORG, the international registry system takes between 5 to 7 days to officially complete the transfer protocol.

What requirements must be met before transferring?+

Your domain must be unlocked for transfer at your current provider, must have been registered or transferred at least 60 days ago (ICANN rule for global domains), and must not be expired or in a redemption state. You must also have access to the administrative email associated with the domain.

Does transferring a domain renew it automatically?+

Yes, for global extensions (.COM, .NET, .ORG, etc.), regulations require a 1-year renewal extension during the transfer process. The small fee you pay for the transfer pays for this extra year, meaning you do not lose any time you have already paid for with your old provider.

Is transferring a .CO.KE domain free?+

Moving a .CO.KE domain name to Asushost is free of charge! However, please note that according to KeNIC regulations, a free transfer does not automatically extend your domain expiry date. You can choose to add a 1-year renewal during the transfer check-out process if you wish.

Can I transfer an expired domain?+

It depends on how recently it expired. If a domain has just expired within a few days, some registrars will still allow you to unlock it and retrieve the EPP code. However, it is highly recommended to transfer your domain at least 2 weeks before its expiration date to avoid registry lockouts.

What should I do if my current registrar refuses to give me my EPP code?+

By official domain registry rules (both ICANN globally and KeNIC locally), your registrar is legally obligated to provide your EPP code upon request. If they block you, please reach out to the Asushost support team, and our compliance experts will guide you on how to escalate and secure your domain.
